GROOVE ARMADA LIVE
Special guest -"Tesla Boy" band.
One of the leaders of British house-music world, “Grammy” award nominee, the “Groove Armada” group will give a concert in Moscow on September, 10, to present their new album “Black Light”. The concert will take place on the stage of “Arena Moscow” club.
The guys from “Groove Armada” are well known for the ability to constantly transform their music, including into it more and more unexpected elements. In case of their last album they proved it to be only just one more time. This time musicians like David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac and Roxy Music had served to be their source of inspiration. But it was not just about influence and inspiration – maestro Brian Ferry himself has been invited to participate in the recording! Brian Ferry performed the vocal part for the track "Shameless" and this was the first time he participated in the recording as the guest in his long career in music. Other remarkable vocalists have also taken their share in working on part of the sessions. Tom Findlay from “Groove Armada” says, he is extremely proud with their new album, firstly, because it was an amazing experience to work on something you get so carried away with and secondly, because he is sure even those who hate everything “Groove Armada” has done before that would like the “Blac kLight”.
In the middle of the 90-s in London a DJ and multi instrumentalist Tom Findlay together with his friend Andy Cato has created an electronic-dance project “Groove Armada”. The group gave its first concerts in the club which received the same name as the band. The name “Groove Armada” itself came from the disco named like that, well known in Newcastle in the 70-s.
In 1997 “Groove Armada” has released several singles including “4 Tune Cookie” and “At the River”. A sample from the last one has been used in the original soundtrack to the “Die Hard 2” the movie. The next year their debut album “Northern Star” has been released. A year later, in 1999, “Groove Armada” released an album called “Vertigo” which was included into the British top-20 and got a silver status in England. Now it is considered to be a significant example of the British progressive-house, combining electronic and live sound, chanson and rap-music, retro-tunes and avant-garde elements. The singles from this album have been equally successful. One of the most remarkable, called “I See You Baby” has been later remixed by another DJ legend Fatboy Slim. The band has been soon noticed by Sir Elton John who has offered them to perform as his “warm-up team”.
In the outbreak of Millenium, in the year 200o, “Vertigo” album has been released in the United States. “The Remixes” album, consisting, quite obviously, of the remixes, followed shortly after. It has been recorded with the participation of DJ Icey and Tim “Love” Lee. Another mix-collection, “Back To Mine” (2000), demonstrated an uncommon approach to creating the remixes. Instead of being recorded in the traditional dance style, those were made in a down-tempo, jazz and funk mode. In the “Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub)” album released in 2001, “Groove Armada” continued with their funcodelic experiments. That album has been made in the cooperation with Richie Havens, Neil Rodgers and Jeru Tha Damaja. The “Superstylin” has been nominated for “Grammy”.
Today “Groove Armada” remains an extremely demanded for club-music ensemble. Apart from working in their own club they are the residents of “Fabric” - one of the largest London clubs. On September, 10, at the concert will be performing live 6 musicians!
