All Roads Lead to Rome for FMX World Elite

After the most spectacular showdown in the history of Red Bull X-Fighters in London in 2009, the premier freestyle motocross tour in the world returns in 2010 with new riders, new locations and plenty of new tricks. This year will once again see the crème-de-la-crème of the international FMX scene battle it out for the coveted title of Red Bull X-Fighters Champion.

Jostling for a place with old classics such as the traditional curtain raiser in Mexico City (MEX) and the legendary two-day event in the Spanish capital Madrid (ESP) will be some new and exciting locations for 2010. The second event of the six-stop Tour will take place in the shadow of the world famous Sphinx dominating the Egyptian city of Giza (EGY), where the dry heat and blazing sun will be sure to push the athletes to the limit. The next highlight follows just weeks later: an FMX mega-event right next to the red square and the Kremlin in the Russian capital Moscow (RUS), before London’s (UK) legendary Battersea Power Station will be recharged once more to electrify the crowd and the riders. Finally, the Red Bull X-Fighters head to the Eternal City, Rome (ITA), to crown the Red Bull X-Fighters Champion at the spectacular season finale.

Last year it was America’s Nate Adams who claimed the title in front of a sell-out crowd of 20,000 at London’s Battersea Power Station following a thrilling season full of twists and turns. This time around, “Mad Dog” Adams is back to try to defend his title and secure his place as one of the all-time greats of Red Bull X-Fighters. Among his most dangerous challengers will be multi-world record holder Robbie Maddison (AUS), who will be looking to finally secure victory in the overall standings after placing third and second, respectively, in 2008 and 2009.

While Adams and Maddison have already secured their places on the 2010 Tour thanks to their strong performances last season, the new Red Bull X-Fighters format means that many of the world’s best FMX riders will have to earn their right for a shot at the title at the Qualifying Session. Only the top six riders from last season (Nate Adams [USA], Robbie Maddison [AUS], Eigo Sato [JPN], Mat Rebeaud [SUI], Dany Torres [ESP] and Levi Sherwood [NZL]) are seeded for this year’s Tour; the remaining 6 spots in the competition will be battled out by eight riders – including many of the finest FMX competitors on the planet – who have to proof their skills in Mexico in front of the international jury as well as the 43.000 enthusiastic Mexican fans.
